چکیده

Linepithema humile (Mayr, 1868) (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) is one of “100 the world’s worst invasive alien species” listed by International Union for Conservation Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN). Although native to South America, this ant has spread worldwide via international trade. Currently, L. not been found in China, if it invades might pose a potential risk invertebrates, vertebrates, plants, human livelihoods. Based on 2432 global occurrence records ten bioclimatic variables, optimized MaxEnt model was used predict suitable areas China. We analyzed important variables affecting areas, determined changes under future climatic scenarios. Our results indicated that mean temperature coldest quarter (Bio11), precipitation (Bio19), wettest (Bio8), warmest (Bio18) were most variables. Under current scenarios, area China 80.31 × 104 km2, which mainly located Fujian, Zhejiang, Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangxi, Yunnan, Hubei. climate scenarios over coming decades, showed an overall increase shift higher latitudes, invasion will change. findings provide theoretical guidance early warning monitoring

Chemical Defense by the Native Winter Ant (Prenolepis imparis) against the Invasive Argentine Ant (Linepithema humile)

The invasive Argentine ant (Linepithema humile) is established worldwide and displaces native ant species. In northern California, however, the native winter ant (Prenolepis imparis) persists in invaded areas. We found that in aggressive interactions between the two species, P. imparis employs a potent defensive secretion. Field observations were conducted at P. imparis nest sites both in the p...

Effect of Weather on Infestation of Buildings by the Invasive Argentine Ant, Linepithema humile (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)

—Weekly reports of the abundance of the Argentine ant, Linepithema humile, in 69 households for 18 mo (1/98–7/99) in the San Francisco Bay Area in northern California were compared with weather data. Ant abundance inside homes was highest in cold rainy weather, and there was a second smaller peak of ant abundance in hot dry weather. Pesticide use in the home decreased ant abundance, from one we...

Queen execution increases relatedness among workers of the invasive Argentine ant, Linepithema humile

Polygyny in social insects can greatly reduce within-nest genetic relatedness. In polygynous ant species, potential rival queens in colonies with multiple queens are often executed by other queens, workers, or both. The Argentine ant, Linepithema humile, native to South America, forms a "supercolony" that is composed of a large number of nests and is considered to contribute to the ant's invasi...

Draft genome of the globally widespread and invasive Argentine ant (Linepithema humile).

Ants are some of the most abundant and familiar animals on Earth, and they play vital roles in most terrestrial ecosystems. Although all ants are eusocial, and display a variety of complex and fascinating behaviors, few genomic resources exist for them. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of a particularly widespread and well-studied species, the invasive Argentine ant (Linepithema humile...
